Organizers named the films that will be screened in competition in the feature and short film categories of the sixth annual New Chitose Airport International Animation Film Festival to be held on Nov. 1-4.

Five titles are in the running for the feature films competition from a total of 50 works submitted from 32 countries and regions.

The five films are: Gints Zilbalodis’ “Away” from Latvia, which won the Contrechamp Award at France's 2019 Annecy International Animation Film Festival; Jeremy Clapin’s “I Lost My Body” from France, which nabbed the Cristal for a Feature Film at Annecy; Kenji Iwaisawa’s “On-Gaku: Our Sound” from Japan, the winner of the Grand Prize for Feature Animation at the Ottawa International Animation Festival; Joaquin Cocina and Cristobal Leon’s “The Wolf House” from Chile, the recipient of the Jury Distinction at Annecy in 2018; and Felix Dufour-Laperriere’s “Ville Neuve” from Canada.

For the short films competition, which is for animated works of 30 minutes or less, a record 2,191 projects from 84 countries and regions were submitted for consideration. Of these, 86 titles are nominated in five categories.

The titles in the international competition category include “Acid Rain” by Polish director Tomek Popakul, which won the Grand Prix at the Animafest Zagreb animation film festival, and “Manic VR” by Kalina Bertin from Canada, which is a virtual reality experience exploring the world of bipolarity.

Among the works from Japan in the category are the motion comic “En chan” by Saigo No Syudan, GIF animation “Pero” and many more by Sawako Kabuki and the “void” GIF animation series by Masanobu Hiraoka.

The festival will be held at the terminal building of New Chitose Airport, the main airport gateway to Hokkaido.
