A blue autumn sky could be seen above the New National Stadium on Oct. 10, which marked 55 years since the opening ceremony for the 1964 Olympics.
Construction work for the stadium straddling Tokyo's Shinjuku and Shibuya wards is scheduled to be completed by the end of November.
The opening ceremony for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be held July 24.
The Japan Meteorological Agency's Tokyo Regional Headquarters calculated the rate of sunny days using data between 1981 and 2010, noting that it was 70 percent for Oct. 10 and 53.3 percent for July 24.
