Recalled mobile batteries (Provided by Anker Japan Co.)
Anker Japan Co., a major Chinese-affiliated mobile battery manufacturer, has issued another round of recalls for certain products sold over the last few years.
Following an expansion of its recall scope, the economy ministry has requested the company to conduct a comprehensive inspection of all products sold in Japan.
The company’s recalls announced on Oct. 21 apply to 410,000 mobile battery units and 110,000 lithium-ion battery-powered speakers sold since December 2022.
According to reports submitted to the ministry, there have been 41 serious incidents, including cases of the products catching fire.
The company suspects foreign substance contamination during the manufacturing process.
Anker had previously recalled about 500,000 mobile batteries.
In total, around 1 million products have now been subject to recall.
The company explained, “We are reviewing the management systems of our manufacturing contractors and tightening quality and testing standards during production.”
