Operations on sections of Tokyo’s Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku lines will be suspended on April 19 and 20 due to scheduled work near JR Tamachi Station.

East Japan Railway Co. (JR East) announced that no trains will be running between Higashi-Jujo and Shinagawa stations on the Keihin-Tohoku Line for the entire day on April 19 and until around noon the following day.

During the same period, the Yamanote Line will be suspended on its clockwise track, or the outer loop, between Ueno and Osaki stations.

The counter-clockwise track, or inner loop, will also be suspended in that section, but only on the morning of April 20.

Operations on the remaining section of the Yamanote Line will also be reduced by up to 60 percent on both days.

The Keihin-Tohoku Line will cancel all rapid trains along the entire route and reduce service by up to 40 percent between Omiya and Higashi-Jujo stations on both days.

There will be additional adjustments to the timetable and service frequency in the affected sections, with an estimated 546,000 passengers expected to be affected.

In response to the service disruption, JR East will operate additional trains between Shinagawa and Ueno stations on the Ueno-Tokyo Line, which runs parallel to the affected sections.

However, the company still advises passengers to use the Tokyo Metro, Toei Subway, Rinkai Line or other alternatives when traveling in the affected area.
