Transportation companies have halted services on some conventional railway and subway lines in the Kanto region on Aug. 16 as a precaution against powerful Typhoon No. 7.
Airlines and railway companies had earlier announced cancellations of Shinkansen bullet train runs and flights.
East Japan Railway Co. (JR East) will cancel operations of the Shonan-Shinjuku Line and halt the Ueno-Tokyo Line through service.
In the Boso area in Chiba Prefecture, some sections of the Kururi Line and the Uchibo Line will be closed all day.
Services on the Sobu, Narita, Sotobo and other lines will be successively canceled from the morning.
In addition to the Narita Express, limited express trains using the Tokaido and Joban lines and those running in the Boso area will be suspended.
Tokyo Metro Co. will suspend operations between Toyocho and Nishi-Funabashi stations on the Tozai Line and reduce the number of trains between Nakano and Toyocho stations.
Private railway operators said there may be suspensions or significant delays on their lines.
SHINKANSEN
As for bullet train services, JR East will cancel 20 trains on the Tohoku, Joetsu and Yamagata Shinkansen lines departing from and arriving at Tokyo and Ueno stations from around 11 a.m.
Trains on the Akita and Hokuriku Shinkansen lines may be suspended or delayed, depending on the weather conditions.
Services on the Tokaido Shinkansen Line will be canceled all day between Tokyo and Nagoya stations.
The number of trains between Nagoya and Shin-Osaka stations will be drastically reduced.
About two Kodama bullet trains, which stop at all stations, will run per hour both ways. Seat reservations are not accepted.
Through service from the Tokaido Shinkansen Line to the Sanyo Shinkansen Line will be canceled all day.
AIRLINES
Japan Airlines Co. will cancel 318 domestic and international flights to and from Haneda and Narita airports.
All Nippon Airways Co. will cancel 335 domestic and international flights to and from the two airports.
Low-cost carriers have also been affected.
The announced cancellations include: 72 Jetstar flights to and from Narita; 49 Skymark flights to and from Haneda; 27 Peach flights to and from Haneda and Narita; and 11 Zipair flights to and from Narita.
In addition, roads are expected to be partially closed due to strong winds and other weather conditions.
