Beef bowl chain Sukiya announced it is temporarily closing all locations for pest prevention measures in response to a second incident at its Akishima Eki-Minami restaurant in Akishima, western Tokyo.
Except for a few branches such as certain shopping center locales, the closure affects nearly all of Sukiya's approximately 1,970 locations nationwide.
It will last from 9 a.m. on March 31 to the same time on April 4.
According to the company, a customer contacted Sukiya after finding part of a cockroach in his takeout order on March 28.
The incident occurred after another customer was accidentally served miso soup with a rat in January at the Tottori Minami-Yoshikata restaurant, a location on the other side of the country.
Regarding the mass closures, the company issued the following statement: "We deeply apologize for any inconvenience and concern this may cause."
