Nippon Television Network Corp. is eating a dish of crow itself after twisting a Chinese woman's words in a program to insinuate that her country's people regularly dine on the birds.
Nippon Television issued an apology on March 27 regarding its variety show, explaining that production staff members had manipulated a Chinese woman’s interview response to suggest, “People in China eat crows.”
According to the official website, a Chinese woman interviewed for the March 24 episode of "Monday Late Show" said that there are few crows in China. She supposedly qualified this with statements such as, "It's because everyone eats them," and "Just stew and eat them, that's it."
However, she never said that. The production staff had intentionally manipulated the woman's comments about other topics during the editing process and distorted her intended meaning.
Nippon Television has posted an apology on the show's website that reads, “As a TV media outlet, this incident should never have occurred. We sincerely apologize to the woman who agreed to be interviewed and to the program’s viewers. We will thoroughly review our production process and prevent a recurrence.”
The apology was accompanied by a Chinese translation.
