KYOTO—Rising temperatures blessed many places around Japan this weekend, including Kyoto, where Kawazu cherry blossoms have popped open in the fine weather.
Kawazu blossoms appear earlier than normal sakura, and the dark pink flowers were in full bloom along the Yodo Canal in Fushimi Ward.
The area was crowded with tourists taking photos and enjoying the blossoms.
In Kyoto, the high on March 22 was 22.6 degrees, the first time this year for the temperature to rise above 20 degrees.
According to the Kyoto Regional Meteorological Observatory, the weather will be generally sunny for the next week, with temperatures continuing to exceed 20 degrees.
