On the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, more than 300 Ukrainians and their supporters gathered on Feb. 24 in front of Shibuya Station in Tokyo to protest the ongoing conflict.

The rally, organized by Stand With Ukraine Japan, saw participants waving Ukrainian flags and holding signs with messages such as "Return their freedom" and "Peace without justice is just a pause."

Ihor Ihnatiev, 27, a rally organizer, addressed the crowd and condemned how the thick fog of war has disrupted lives and dreams.

He also criticized the idea of U.S.-brokered cease-fire negotiations that exclude Ukraine, emphasizing that what the protesters want is a permanent peace with guaranteed future safety.

A 35-year-old Ukrainian at the rally shared this view, saying, "Peace means Ukraine’s victory."

She argued that a cease-fire that leaves Russian occupation in place “would not be the peace that Ukrainians want.”
