SAN FRANCISCO--The highly acclaimed series “Shogun” has been nominated in four categories of the 82nd Golden Globes, including for best television drama series, it was announced on Dec. 9.
Hiroyuki Sanada, who produces and stars in the historical drama, was also nominated for best male actor for his portrayal of the powerful Japanese warlord Yoshii Toranaga.
In addition, Anna Sawai and Tadanobu Asano were nominated for best female actor and best male supporting actor, respectively.
The Golden Globes, often seen as a precursor to the Academy Awards, will hold its awards ceremony on Jan. 5 in Los Angeles.
"Shogun" has already enjoyed significant success this year, sweeping the Emmy Awards with 18 wins, including outstanding drama series and outstanding lead actor for Sanada.
Set in Japan’s tumultuous Sengoku (Warring States) Period, the series follows the life of Toranaga, a character based on Tokugawa Ieyasu (1542-1616), the founder of Tokugawa Shogunate.
The series is primarily in Japanese and has been praised for its authenticity and historical accuracy.
