SAN FRANCISCO--“Shogun,” a historical drama series produced by and starring Hiroyuki Sanada, leads the list of nominees for the 76th Emmy Awards with 25 nominations, including Best Drama Series.
The story centers around warlord Yoshii Toranaga, who is inspired by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the Tokugawa Shogunate founder, played by Sanada.
The actor has been nominated for Best Actor, while Anna Sawai was put up for Best Actress.
Tadanobu Asano and Takehiro Hira are in the running in the Best Supporting Actor category.
The Los Angeles Times said the fact that “Shogun” was the most-nominated title is a major achievement for Asian works, following in the footsteps of “Beef,” which won the Best Miniseries and other Emmy awards last year.
The awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on Sept. 15.
