The temperature hit 25.1 degrees in central Tokyo on Oct. 24, marking the 153rd day--and perhaps the last--of the year when the mercury rises to 25 degrees or higher.

The temperature is expected to gradually fall to 20 to 21 degrees from Oct. 25, the level seen in an average year, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The previous record of 143 days with a temperature of 25 degrees or higher, which was set in 2023, was broken this year.

The 25.1 degrees on Oct. 24 was recorded at 9:53 a.m.

The JMA said the temperature did not drop fully in the early morning and rose with the sunshine because cold air coming from the west has not reached central Tokyo.

As of 1 p.m., the temperature rose to 25 degrees or higher in many locales.

The city of Iwaki in Fukushima Prefecture recorded 25.6 degrees, while the city of Shinshiro in Aichi Prefecture registered 27.2 degrees.
