Blistering heat continued across Japan on Aug. 4, with temperatures soaring to 35 degrees and above at a record 301 out of 914 observation sites nationwide, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The JMA, which began compiling statistics using the current method in 2010, also recorded temperatures of 39.2 degrees in Shimabara, Nagasaki Prefecture, Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture, and other locations.
The unrelenting heat is expected to continue in eastern and western Japan until around Aug. 11 due to high pressure systems and other factors, with temperatures of 35 degrees or higher at some locations.
