The world’s first amusement park devoted to the globally popular anime and manga series “Dragon Ball” will open in Saudi Arabia, Toei Animation Co. announced.
Toei, which produced the anime works by Akira Toriyama, who died March 1 at age 68, announced the deal with Qiddiya Investment Co. in Tokyo on March 22.
“Visitors will be able to enter the world of ‘Dragon Ball’ and enjoy the adventures of ‘Son Goku’ while becoming one of the other characters of the anime,” Toei Animation President Katsuhiro Takagi said at the news conference.
The amusement park will open in the Qiddiya City entertainment district now being constructed on the outskirts of Riyadh, the Saudi Arabian capital.
Its opening date will be announced later.
Officials said the facility will be divided into seven areas and offer about 30 attractions across an area covering about 500,000 square meters.
Some will be re-enactments of locations that have appeared in the “Dragon Ball” anime, such as “Kame House” and “Capsule Corporation.”
The symbol of the amusement park will be the 70-meter tall Shenron, a magical dragon from the anime. A roller coaster ride will be installed within that dragon structure.
The amusement park will also have restaurants, gift shops and a hotel.
