With cherry blossoms soon to bloom in the capital, the Imperial Household Agency announced that a street within the Imperial Palace will be opened for public viewing from March 23 to 31.
The Inui Street runs north-south through the grounds of the palace and is lined with Somei-Yoshino and other varieties of sakura trees.
The 600-meter street starts near the Imperial Household Agency’s building and ends at the Inui-mon gate.
Visitors can enter the portion of the palace grounds that is open to the public from the Sakashita-mon gate near Tokyo Station.
The biannual public opening of the street, in the spring and fall, resumed in 2022 following a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. Visitors are no longer required to wear masks.
The street will be open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., free of charge and with no reservations required.
