SAPPORO--A knife-wielding man went on the rampage at a convenience store in Sapporo on Feb. 25, leaving one employee dead and two other staff members injured, police said.
The victims were in their 40s to 60s.
Police said a clerk from the store’s “Seicomart Kita 31-jo branch” called around 6:50 a.m. to report that man armed with what appeared to be a kitchen knife had started attacking people.
Hokkaido police said all three store employees were taken to a hospital with stab wounds. Of the three, a male clerk in his 40s was confirmed dead.
Police identified the suspect as Hirotaka Miyanishi, 43, an unemployed man living in Sapporo’s Kita Ward.
He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, which he did not contest.
