OSAKA--Singapore became the first country to start building a pavilion for the 2025 Osaka Kansai Expo amid lingering concerns for other participants, many of whom remain in search of contractors.
Ten workers visited the venue, the artificial island of Yumeshima in Osaka’s Konohana Ward, on Jan. 10 to conduct the initial land survey.
The construction site for the Singaporean pavilion is about 900 square meters, located immediately inside a large ring-shaped wooden roof, the main structure at the venue.
Singapore’s tourism authorities said they were pleased to announce the start of construction, and details about the exhibition would be released at a later date.
The building is expected to be completed in early November.
With only 15 months to go until the start of the world's fair, construction on many of the pavilions is lagging behind schedule.
While 35 countries had secured deals with contractors as of Jan. 9, 20 were still in negotiations with firms.
