YOKOHAMA--The city’s famed Chinatown district is all lit up for the annual Spring Festival to ring in the Lunar New Year.
The illumination event, now in its 20th year, features 550 lanterns. About 100 lanterns are lined up in zig-zag fashion to represent a Chinese dragon. There are also large lanterns in the shape of mythical creatures such as the phoenix.
During the lighting ceremony held in early November, lanterns were lit up in orange while a lion dance was performed by members of the alumni association of the Yokohama Yamate Chinese School.
The illumination event is held from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. until Feb. 24.
Yamashita Park and other sightseeing spots in the vicinity are also lit up for tourists.
