For soccer and manga buffs, special “Captain Tsubasa”-themed murals that adorn Keisei Electric Railway Co.’s Yotsugi Station in Tokyo's Katsushika Ward have been replaced with new ones.

The train station is closely associated with the globally popular soccer manga and anime series because author Yoichi Takahashi grew up in the neighborhood.

With the assistance of Takahashi, the station has been decked out with the murals since 2019.

All the illustrations were replaced with new ones to mark the start of a new animated series that began airing in October.

The ticket gate and the stairs are adorned with dynamic illustrations of protagonist Tsubasa Ozora and his fellow players.

The unveiling ceremony was held on Nov. 27 near the station, attended by Takahashi and Homare Sawa, a former captain of the Japan women's national soccer team.

“We want to attract customers from home and abroad to help energize the community,” said Keisei Electric Railway President Toshiya Kobayashi.

“He has always been my idol,” Sawa added, referring to the manga’s protagonist.
