Yasuhisa Hara’s historical epic manga “Kingdom” will surpass 100 million copies printed, including digital editions, with the release of its 70th volume on Nov. 17, publisher Shueisha Inc. announced.
It will be the first title serialized in the company’s manga anthologies for young adult male readers to reach over 100 million copies in circulation, it added.
Set in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, “Kingdom” centers around the protagonist, who aspires to become the greatest general in the world, and a young king who later becomes the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty in war-ravaged China.
The series has been running in the Weekly Young Jump comic anthology since 2006. It has spawned anime and live-action feature film adaptations.
It won the Manga Grand Prix at the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2013.
“Kingdom” is set to join the ranks of Shueisha’s manga titles with a cumulative circulation of over 100 million copies, including “Dragon Ball,” “Slam Dunk,” “One Piece” and “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,” all of which were serialized in the Weekly Shonen Jump anthology.
