Powerful Typhoon No. 7 is expected to move northwest and approach Honshu around Aug. 15, disrupting transportation during the busy Bon holiday period for travelers.
JR Tokai announced on Aug. 10 that the Tokaido Shinkansen Line may be subject to cancellations and suspensions from Aug. 13 to 16.
In addition, East Japan Railway Co. (JR East) also reported possible cancellations and delays on its Tohoku, Joetsu, and Hokuriku Shinkansen lines.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is calling on the public to remain updated on the latest typhoon information.
Typhoon No. 7 was churning southeast of Chichijima island as of 9 p.m. on Aug. 10, traveling northwest at a speed of about 10 kph.
The typhoon's central pressure was 960 hectopascals. The typhoon had a maximum wind speed near the center of 144 kph and instantaneous gusts reaching 198 kph.
