HIMEJI, Hyogo Prefecture--The Lego Group is paying homage to wondrous Himeji Castle here with a special Adult Lego set to mark the 30th anniversary of its registration as a World Cultural Heritage site.
Consisting of 2,125 pieces, it will be the first Lego product in the motif of a World Heritage site or castle in Japan. The product will become available worldwide on Aug. 1.
The set faithfully recreates the five-story main keep, three sub-keeps and other castle components. The brick castle will stand 19 centimeters tall, 32 cm wide and 27 cm deep.
A basic interior layout indicating the wooden floors, pillars and other features can be seen when the top of the main keep is removed.
The kit also comes with four cherry trees that can be placed in the garden in front of the main keep, two with pink blossoms and others with fresh green foliage.
The hilltop castle is regarded as the finest surviving example of prototypical Japanese castle architecture.
Adult Lego sets are intended for fans aged 18 or older. New products themed on artworks and cars made their debut around 2020 to cultivate adult fans.
Previous kits themed on Japanese culture include bonsai in January 2021 and ukiyo-e painter Katsushika Hokusai’s “Kanagawa-oki nami-ura” (Under the Wave off Kanagawa) this past February.
The company set a price of $159.99 for those purchasing the Himeji Castle set from overseas and 20,980 yen for domestic customers.
