OTSU--A yellow carpet of narcissus flowers is providing a breathtaking vista for hikers strolling along the mountain slope overlooking Lake Biwako here.
About 300,000 bulbs cover a roughly 20,000-square-meter area, which serves as a ski field during the winter. The maximum inclination is about 30 degrees.
The hill, part of the Biwako Valley tourist facility on the western side of Lake Biwako, can be reached via a ropeway and other means.
The field of narcissus has grown from the approximately 5,000 bulbs planted in 1999.
The flowers are expected to be at their best during the Golden Week holiday period through May 7, depending on the weather.
