Yoko Kamio’s “Boys Over Flowers” was certified by Guinness World Records in April as the highest-circulation comic series for girls by a single author, publisher Shueisha Inc. announced.

Running in the Margaret comic anthology from 1992 to 2004, the popular manga has been turned into live-action and animated adaptations.

The romantic comedy focuses on the school life of Tsukushi Makino at a prestigious school dominated by a group of four boys known as the F4 led by Tsukasa Domyoji.

Shueisha said 59.4 million print copies of the series had been published in 37 regular volumes and 20 complete editions.

“I am very happy to see it recognized by the Guinness World Records in the milestone year of the 30th anniversary of the start of ‘Boys Over Flowers,’” Kamio said. “I believe I owe this achievement to the support of so many readers. Thank you so much.”
