A stage adaptation of the beloved Studio Ghibli animated film “My Neighbor Totoro” continued its storybook success in London, taking home six Olivier Awards.

The six statuettes awarded on April 2 include for best director, best entertainment or comedy play, and best costume design, with the last going to Japanese designer Kimie Nakano.

The show was produced by the Royal Shakespeare Co. and Nippon Television Network Corp. with executive producer Joe Hisaishi, who wrote the original score for the celebrated 1988 animation hit produced by Studio Ghibli.

The production opened at London’s Barbican Theater in October 2022. The three-month run was met with immediate critical and commercial success.

The play will return to the theater in November 2023 for a four-month run.
