TODA, Saitama Prefecture--A male intruder suspected of slashing a teacher at a junior high school here on March 1 has also admitted to mutilating several cats and scattering their body parts, police said.
The suspect, believed to be a teenager, entered Misasa Junior High School, got into a scuffle with staff members, and injured a male teacher in his 60s with a blade, according to police.
Police received an emergency call about the attack at 12:25 p.m., and arrested the intruder, who had been held down by staff members, on suspicion of attempted murder.
Investigative sources quoted the suspect as saying that he wanted to kill someone.
The injured teacher was conscious when he was taken to a hospital.
No students at the school were hurt.
The suspect also admitted to his involvement in the cases of cat body parts left in elementary school playgrounds and parks in Saitama city, just north of Toda.
At least five incidents were reported in February.
Police and parents stepped up patrols of the area following the grisly discoveries.
