Tokyo Yakult Swallows slugger Munetaka Murakami, who became the youngest to win the Triple Crown and hit a record 56 home runs this season, is featured in the lineup of special “hina” dolls representing notable people and events in 2022.
Members of news outlets were allowed on Nov. 29 to have a sneak view of this year’s “kawaribina” dolls before they go on public display from Dec. 1
The dolls also featured a mother and a son shopping for groceries before food costs and many other prices rose in October.
There were also dolls of revelers enjoying a festive mood for the first time in three years after traditional festivals were revived following their cancellation in the previous years due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The annual display of kawaribina dolls is a tradition of Mataro Ningyo (Mataro Doll), a doll manufacturer based in Tokyo’s Taito Ward, since 1946.
A public exhibition will be staged at the Mataro Ningyo Kaikan building in the ward until March 3 of next year, the day of the Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival).
