Fresh cases of COVID-19 in Tokyo fell slightly from the day before on July 24, although the 28,112 count represented an increase of 10,322 from the previous Sunday.
Metropolitan health officials also announced two related deaths. Both patients were male.
On July 23, Tokyo reported 32,698 cases.
The occupancy rate for beds for COVID-19 patients was 47.3 percent in the capital.
Osaka Prefecture logged 17,445 new cases on July 24, a roughly 1.6-fold increase from the preceding Sunday.
Health officials also reported two related deaths in the prefecture. Both patients were female.
