A long-awaited anime adaption of Uoto’s popular historical manga “Chi. Chikyu no Undo ni Tsuite” (Chi. Regarding Earth’s movement) is now in the works.
Shogakukan Inc.’s weekly Big Comic Spirits manga anthology announced the development in its 30th issue published June 27.
However, details, including where and when it will be available for viewing, will be announced at a later date, the production committee said.
The anime will be produced by Madhouse Inc., a studio based in Tokyo's Nakano Ward famed for creating “Hunter x Hunter,” “Death Note,” “Parasyte, the maxim” and other popular titles.
Set in medieval Europe, “Chi. Chikyu no Undo ni Tsuite” revolves around a cast of characters who risk their lives to study and prove heliocentrism--that the sun is at the center of our solar system--an idea that was regarded as heretical at the time.
The series wrapped up its run in April, with the final eighth volume published on June 30.
“It’s so moving. I’m looking forward to seeing it,” said Uoto, who wrote and illustrated the manga series.
The 25-year-old author became the youngest artist to win the Manga Grand Prix at the 26th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in April. The event, which is given to the year’s most outstanding work, is sponsored by The Asahi Shimbun Co.
