Tokyo confirmed 43 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Dec. 26, 10 more than the previous Sunday.
The seven-day average of new cases over the week through Dec. 26 came to 35.1, an increase of 43.9 percent from the figure for the preceding week, metropolitan government health authorities said.
Two patients were deemed to have symptoms serious enough to warrant special breathing apparatus. The figure was unchanged from the day before.
