Tokyo confirmed 29 fresh daily cases of COVID-19 on Dec. 15, eight more than on Wednesday of last week.
Metropolitan heath officials said the seven-day average of new cases over the week until Dec. 15 came to 19.3, an increase of 21.4 percent from the figure for the preceding week.
The number of patients in a serious condition and requiring ventilators or ECMO heart-lung bypass machines, stood at three, down by one from the previous day. No deaths were reported.
