Tokyo reported 18 new cases of COVID-19 on Nov. 2, down 11 from the same day a week ago, and the death of a patient in his 90s.

The latest tally brought the daily average of new novel coronavirus infections in the capital over the week through Nov. 2 to 21.9, or 76.6 percent of the figure for the preceding week.

The number of serious cases in Tokyo requiring ventilators or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, also known as an ECMO lung bypass machine, stood at 14, the same figure as the previous day.
