OSAKA--A 4-year-old girl died after apparently falling by accident from her home on the 25th floor of an apartment building in this city’s Kita Ward on Oct. 13.
Kanon Hayashi was discovered lying on the roof to the entrance of the 26-story building on the morning of Oct. 13. Her death was confirmed at a hospital.
Police believe that the girl accidentally fell from an apartment balcony after inspecting the scene.
Police were alerted to the tragedy by a neighbor around 6:10 a.m.
Kanon lived in the apartment with her 41-year-old mother and her 2-year-old sister.
“Kanon disappeared suddenly after running around in the home,” the mother was quoted as saying by police.
The balcony has a handrail about 130 centimeters tall.
Investigative sources said there were signs indicating a child held onto it and that there was a wooden chair standing dozens of centimeters tall nearby.
In addition, there were signs in the balcony area that the chair had been moved there from a different location.
Police believe that Kanon may have fallen from the balcony after she stood on the chair, the sources said.
