Tokyo confirmed 49 new novel coronavirus infections on Oct. 11, its lowest number in about 16 months.
It was the third consecutive day that the capital posted its lowest number of daily new infections for this year.
The last time Tokyo's new cases fell below 50 was June 25, 2020, when it reported 48 new patients.
The 49 cases on Oct. 11 were 38 fewer than the same day a week earlier. The seven-day average through Oct. 11 came to 109.3, down 55.6 percent from the preceding week.
