The health ministry will allow fully vaccinated people to receive booster shots against COVID-19.

The ministry also decided to let individuals who develop allergic reactions after receiving the first dose to ask for a different vaccine for the second shot.

A panel of experts was expected to discuss specific details at a Sept. 17 meeting.

In principle, the booster shot would be provided eight months after the second jab, using the same vaccine given in the first two shots.

Examples of booster shots in foreign nations will be taken into consideration in deciding who should gain the extra protection.
