Organizers of the Tokyo Paralympics said Sept. 5 that four people accredited for the Games had tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the overall total to 301 since Aug. 12, when daily tallies were first compiled.
The Paralympics opened on Aug. 24. Sept. 5 marked the closing day.
The four comprise two employees of subcontractors of the Tokyo Paralympics organizing committee, one official and a member of the media. Of the four, three are from Japan.
The organizing committee publishes daily figures on the number of athletes as well as those with accreditation cards, such as employees of businesses on contract with the committee, Games officials and Japanese and foreign media representatives.
Of the 301 total, individuals working for subcontractors accounted for 193 cases, followed by 53 officials, 17 members of media outlets, 14 organizers, 13 athletes and 11 volunteers.
The same day, Tokyo reported 1,853 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Sept. 5, down 1,228 from last Sunday and marking the 14th consecutive day of a decline from the figure for the preceding week, metropolitan health officials said.
Officials confirmed 10 new deaths from COVID-19, adding that the patients ranged in age from in their 30s to 90s.
