MORIOKA--A 9-year-old boy who took his mother’s car for a joy ride rear-ended a minivehicle that had stopped at a crossing here while police were in pursuit, causing a minor injury to a female driver.
The collision at the crossing on National Route 4 around 5:35 p.m. on June 5 occurred about 10 minutes after police were alerted by a pedestrian that a boy was in the diver’s seat of a car.
The boy was driving at speeds of 20-30 kph when police spotted him and gave chase in three cars.
The female driver of the minivehicle, a city resident in her 30s, sustained a minor neck injury.
The collision also caused her car to ram another vehicle.
Right before the crash, the boy’s mother called police to report that her son was missing and that the key to her car and the car itself were gone.
