A gradual uptick in novel coronavirus infections in Tokyo continued April 4 with 355 new patients confirmed, according to metropolitan health officials.
The seven-day case average per day over the week through April 4 stood at 389.7, an increase of 11 percent over the previous week, records show.
Of the newly confirmed infections, 102 patients were in their 20s, followed by 76 in their 30s and 53 in their 50s. Twenty-nine patients were aged 65 or older.
The number of serious COVID-19 cases requiring ventilators or an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) device, which circulates blood through an artificial lung, stood at 47, one less than the day before.
