Tokyo confirmed 446 fresh cases of COVID-19 on April 3, pushing the daily average for the week to 383.7, an increase of 11.9 percent over the previous week, according to metropolitan government officials.
Of the latest patients, 131 were in their 20s, 79 in their 30s and 67 in their 40s. There were also 64 patients aged 65 or older.
Forty-eight patients displayed serious symptoms that require ventilators or an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) device, which circulates blood through an artificial lung. The figure represents an increase of five from the previous day.
