Tokyo logged 213 new novel coronavirus cases on Feb. 24, while serious cases dropped to 69, metropolitan health officials said.
The seven-day daily case average over the week through Feb. 24 was down by 16.7 percent, compared with the preceding week.
Of the newly confirmed infections, 60 patients were aged 65 or older, the highest of any age group.
There were 38 people in their 40s, 32 in their 50s, 28 in their 20s and 25 in their 30s.
The number of serious cases dropped by eight from the day before, officials said.
Tokyo defines serious cases as patients requiring ventilators or an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) device, which circulates blood through an artificial lung.
