The number of new COVID-19 cases totaled 189 in Tokyo on Nov. 8, bringing the seven-day average through the same day to 202, the highest since August, metropolitan health officials said.
The last time the capital reported the seven-day moving average hitting the 200 threshold was for the week through Aug. 29, with 206.9 cases.
“New infections increased between Monday and Saturday, compared with the same period a week earlier,” a metropolitan official said, adding that other local governments are also seeing a similar upward trend.
Officials urged residents to thoroughly wash their hands, wear masks and properly ventilate their locations to prevent infections.
