Tokyo reported 226 new COVID-19 cases on Aug. 28, the third day in a row that the daily figure topped 200, according to metropolitan government officials.
That brings the total number of confirmed cases in the capital to 20,322.
Of the latest 226 cases, 63 are people in their 20s, 46 are in their 30s, 35 in their 50s, 31 in their 40s, 16 in their 60s, 12 in their 80s, five in their 70s and two in their 90s.
Eight teenagers and another eight children under the age of 10 also tested positive.
The daily infection numbers announced by the Tokyo metropolitan government generally reflect the results of tests conducted about three days earlier. The preliminary figure for tests performed on Aug. 25 was 5,338, officials said.
