Tokyo registered 182 new COVID-19 cases on Aug. 25, the second consecutive day the count has fallen below 200, according to metropolitan officials.

The capital recorded 95 cases on Aug. 24.

New infections announced on Aug. 25 generally reflect the results of tests conducted about three days prior.

On Aug. 22, 2,792 tests were performed, about 4,000 fewer than the peak of testing on Aug. 11, according to Tokyo officials.

Of the new patients reported on Aug. 25, most were under the age of 50.

Forty-nine were in their 20s, 33 each in their 30s and 40s, and 25 in their 50s.

There were 12 patients in their 60s and 10 in their 70s.

Nine were teenagers, seven in their 80s, three under age 10 and one in their 90s.

The number of patients in serious condition totaled 34 on Aug. 25, down by four from the day before.

Serious cases refer to those on a ventilator or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, or ECMO lung bypass machine, according to the metropolitan government.

The comparable figure was 15 on Aug. 1.
