Kanagawa Governor Yuji Kuroiwa issued an alert to contain the resurgence of COVID-19 in the prefecture, asking residents and businesses to maintain their vigilance.
Under the alert, officials asked residents to refrain from visiting places with infection risks and businesses to remain cautious.
Forty-three people newly tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the prefecture on July 17, prefectural officials said.
The prefectural government has set a standard that if the number of new cases totals 33 or higher a day on a weekly average, it will issue an alert.
