Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike pleaded with local residents to refrain from nonessential travel to other prefectures after the capital reported more than 100 new COVID-19 cases for the third straight day.
Koike met with reporters after a meeting on July 4 with Yasutoshi Nishimura, the state minister in charge of economic revitalization who also serves as point man for the central government’s efforts to grapple with the novel coronavirus pandemic.
“I would like to once again make a request to Tokyo residents. Please refrain from nonessential travel to other prefectures," Koike told the reporters. "For commuters, I once again would like to ask for further efforts to establish and develop ways to work from home.”
The capital reported 131 new COVID-19 infections on July 4, the third straight day the number of infections has exceeded 100.
