The long-awaited third season of the "Kingdom" animated TV series featuring the "Alliance Arc" story will air in April on the Japan Broadcasting Corp. (NHK)’s General TV channel.
The Alliance Arc contains one of the anime's greatest battles in which the Qin dynasty prepares for an epic fight against a coalition army.
The anime is based on a historical manga of the same name by Yasuhisa Hara, which currently runs in the Weekly Young Jump comic anthology. The comic book series boasts more than 45 million copies in print.
Season 3 is supervised by Hara himself with a new production team.
The story is set in the third century B.C. in China, when several states are struggling for supremacy.
The title won the Manga Grand Prix at the 17th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2013.
The first season of the animated TV series adaptation aired from June 2012 to February 2013, followed by season 2 between June 2013 and March 2014.
The manga was also adapted into a live-action feature film released in April 2019, with actor Kento Yamazaki playing the protagonist, Shin.
