The body of an 18-year-old college student was discovered early on July 7 packed in a refrigerator at her father’s confectionery shop in Tokyo's Arakawa Ward, police sources said.
Police searched for the 43-year-old father of Ibuki Kizu as they believed he might have knowledge of his daughter's death.
However, he was found dead in Saitama later that morning after apparently hanging himself.
Police suspect that the father was involved in Kizu’s death, the sources said.
Police received an emergency call from the student’s younger brother around 6:35 p.m. on July 6 reporting that his father was about to commit suicide.
After the brother’s call, the father called his family and said he “cut” his daughter at his shop, according to the sources
When police searched the shop for the father, they found Kizu’s body in a commercial refrigerator, which measures 73 centimeters by 140 cm by 85 cm, around 12:50 a.m. on July 7.
There were signs of strangulation around her neck.
Her father was discovered hanging from a rope under a tree on a dry riverbed in Saitama’s Iwatsuki Ward at around 4:45 a.m. His motorcycle was found nearby.
Kizu lived with her parents and brother. She was confirmed to be at their home on the morning of July 6.
