All lanes on the Kan-etsu Expressway linking Tokyo and Niigata Prefecture were open for traffic on Dec. 28, two days after 67 vehicles were involved in a fatal pileup in Gunma Prefecture.
East Nippon Expressway Co. (NEXCO East) reopened the outbound lanes of the expressway between the Tsukiyono and Minakami interchanges in Gifu Prefecture at 1 p.m. on Dec. 28.
The accident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 26 near the Minakami IC on the outbound lanes in Minakami, Gunma Prefecture.
Two people died, 26 others suffered injuries, and 20 of the vehicles were burned.
