Mako Komuro, eldest daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko, has given birth to her first baby, the Imperial Household Agency announced on May 30.
The agency did not release the date of birth or the sex of the baby.
Fumihito and the family are very happy about the birth of the baby and wish for the happy daily life of the Komuro family, Naomasa Yoshida, a senior agency official, said at a regular news conference on May 30.
Mako wed former college classmate Kei Komuro in October 2021 and left the imperial family.
The following month, the couple moved to the United States.
When asked why the birth was announced by the agency, Yoshida said: “She has already left the imperial family, so we hoped that she could live her life in a quiet environment. However, some media have reported the birth, so we decided to announce it.”
