OSAKA—Osaka prefectural police arrested an 83-year-old man on April 16 on suspicion of stealing honey from a display at a pavilion at the Osaka Kansai Expo.
This marked the first arrest inside the expo pavilions.
According to the Konohana Police Station, the man is suspected of stealing a jar of honey, worth 6,800 yen ($48) including taxes, from the booth of Kyrgyzstan, a Central Asian country, at around 1:30 p.m. on April 16.
A security guard at the scene reportedly saw the man putting the honey into a bag and apprehended him.
The booth was in the Commons A pavilion, where 29 countries jointly exhibit.
According to police, the man, who is from Tondabayashi, Osaka Prefecture, and of unknown occupation, has admitted to the charge.
